Happy 4th Birthday

...to my blog!

Phil started this when Vivienne was born, to get some photos up for family living out of state. Then it started to be a nice online diary of the kids, motherhood and family. There is some crap about me on here, too.

Phil redesigned the site and re-launched it on February 5th, 2004. I can’t believe I have been berating myself for not posting more frequently for 4 long years. Wow.

Happy Valentine’s Day

Phil surprised me this morning with a planned trip New York City and tickets to see Xanadu, (note, husband is a girl). He is just such a nice man and a good husband. You tell me who else’s husband would subject themselves to a play that’s been called “A kid’s play for 40 year old gay men”. Gotta love my Phil.

Stupid Networking Sites

I had a MySpace page for a split second. I got bored of it and kept forgetting to check it and one day, I just deleted it. The amount of crap on there just frustrated me and by going from one person’s page to another, I was really grossed out at all the women that wanted me to look at their butts and men who thought they were way sexier than in real life.

I had a friend on Facebook, so I gave that a whirl. It is mainly the same thing. I never check that one either. But thus far, haven’t deleted it. In my husband’s other life (which is what we call all work things that I find out about ‘on accident’ on all of the sudden that are very out of place in my own world), he also has a Facebook account. I just found out about it today. So he added me as a ‘friend’. Then he added me as his spouse.

My all-time favorite thing about Facebook happened to me today. I think they have me on their site for longer just because of this:

It reads “You have a request from Philip to add him as your spouse”. Oh! The power I had in my hands just then. The ease of “check this box: Are you my wife? Yes __ No __”. Just to be nice, I went ahead with it, knowing that now I am no longer hot, single property on Facebook:

“You are now in a relationship with Philip Hertzler.”

Nice.

*Edited to add* Phil just came home and saw the images in this post. He then added that the little heart icon should be replaced with a ball and chain. *Sigh* He is all mine ladies...ALL MINE.

Making My Life Easier

image

We just had one of those cold spells that lasted a week. There were days when it barely got above freezing. Here in the Mid-Atlantic states, that is cold. During those days, I spent a lot of my time opening and closing the back and front doors on the whim of the cats. Both Liesl and Friedrich, who combined are maybe smarter than a can of nuts, would consistently forget how cold it was outside and ask to go out again and again. Then, four minutes later, one would come back in. She would eat and then walk right back to the door.

Liesl, she likes to meow until the door magically opens. Friedrich paws at the door like he is running on a exercise wheel. Both are equally as bothersome when I am trying to be on the computer, watch TV, do any number of household chores or cook meals. It happens again when they want to be let in. But instead of meowing at the door, Liesl has taken to jumping up to the 4th window pane on the back french doors and hanging there with a pained look on her little kitty face.

I found the Cat Windoor and immediately started to research it. It arrives 6 days later and only took Phil 2 hours to install.

Now, a week later, Friedrich is using the door like a champ. At 5am, I was greeted in bed by a cold and somewhat damp cat. Believe it or not, I was happy in my half awake state. It meant he had finally not only learned to go out the door, but he can get back in! Then, I went downstairs at 730 to be faced with Liesl at the front door, meowing to be let out. She will be a tough nut to crack.

Meanwhile, Henry thinks it is a really cool toy and likes to push it open and say “Bye!” out of it. At least we know he is smarter than the cat.
