Halloween 2008
Vivienne chose her costume, a “Bratz Kitty”, which I cringed at the very idea of. As I stood in front of the wall of costumes at Party City, I uttered the words “Pick which ever one you want”. That was a huge mistake. At least she looked cute and she loved the idea of being something with a tail. In the end, it was fine.
Henry didn’t get to choose, so I did it for him. But I was nice and went for something easy and comfortable, if not easy and inexpensive. I am just not that mom who will design and sew a cute outfit for my child to wear for 2 hours and then toss. Nope. Old navy is my bestest costume supplying friend.
My sister, mom and grandmother came over to celebrate with us. Michelle was our sidekick in trick or treating. She obviously never hated it as much as I did, because she went up to the houses with Henry and I stayed in the street with the wagon. Vivienne didn’t need anyone to go with her. I think she would have circled the block by herself. I am thrilled and amazed every year that she has no reservations about doing so. Because I can remember deciding not to go if I couldn’t blend with a big group. Oh, how I hated saying “trick or treat” and have someone remark at how I looked cute/ interesting/ funny. (Still hate it).
When all was said and done, the kids were in bed by 8:30pm. There is a giant pile of candy on the kitchen counter and Phil and I are celebrating the end of another holiday.

How Did I Ever Waste Time Without This???
I am a little stunned. I wished and hoped and I have complained to Phil for years about this but I never thought it would happen.
MTV Online now enables you to see any video you want. Yep, ANY VIDEO. Remember how it used to be in, say 1983, when you turned on MTV and there was music on there? NUTS! You can have that again, but with a little more finger work.
Try it! It is AMAZING. Here is a small sampling of how I wasted 30 minutes of my day:

Born Blonde?
Not even close. Born a close friend to Ronald McDonald? Maybe.
Not sure when I will learn that I can pay someone to do this. I do save $150 when I do it at home, but at what cost?

I stole the sign
Someone went through our neighborhood last night and stole the Obama signs. It wouldn’t bother me so much if it weren’t for the fact that ours arrived yesterday evening. Phil went out in the rain to put it up around 7pm. When he went to get the paper this morning, it was gone. So is the neighbor’s down the street. I suspect the other 5 on streets near us are gone, too.
I know that the person that stole them, presumably to toss them, wasn’t thinking about what effect it would have. But it saddens me. I am not angry, I am not fired up, I am just so sad.
Phil didn’t go for my new sign: “You can steal my sign but you can’t change my vote”. So I think this afternoon we will stop by the headquarters and ask them for a handful of signs (if they have them) and go hand them out to all of the people we know that lost them. Then, we will feel better about all this as we wait for someone to steal the sign again, tonight.
