Too Many Leaves

Like most neighborhoods in the mid-eastern US, we are suffering from non-stop falling of leaves. It makes the sidewalk hard to find and the driveway difficult to navigate. Thank goodness thing falls under “Things Phil takes care of”.

Needles

I am heading up to Vivienne’s school in about 30 minutes to sit with her while she gets her H1N1 vaccine. And because I refuse to sit in a 4 hour line, she might be the only one in the house to get it.

Vivienne isn’t bad with shots, most likely falling about normal. She stresses in advance and gets all worked up, only to say “that wasn’t so bad” when it is all over. So we said nothing to her about it this morning. Part of me wanted to warn her but she needs to focus on school when she is in school and not spend her morning freaking out otherwise.

I have never had a problem getting shots for my kids. I am the mom that is holding tight while the nurses stick them, not flinching or crying or feeling bad. It is something they need. I know some moms that talk about how it just killed them, others that cry. That’s just not me. Its just a quick shot, get over it.

I remember a few years back when I took Vivienne to get her flu shot and she didn’t even flinch. I gave her a sucker, she sat still and watched and never cried, not one tear. I thought she was superkid. Now I know she just really likes her sugar.

Risk

To laugh is to risk appearing the fool,
To weep is to risk appearing sentimental.
To reach out is to risk involvement,
To expose feelings is to risk exposing your true self.
To place your ideas and dreams before a crowd is to risk their loss.
To love is to risk not being loved in return,
To live is to risk dying,
To hope is to risk despair,
To try is to risk failure.
But risks must be taken because the greatest hazard in life is to risk nothing.

Sickness

I do believe that January is the month that we all are so beaten down after the holidays, that we all tend to get sick at once. First it was Henry, then Vivienne, then me. Henry is still sick, Vivienne is coming out of it but relapsed last night but is fine today. I feel like a truck hit me but no other major ailments. Phil seems ok so far.

I kick myself about once a day for not documenting more holiday things on here. We were just all so busy, it never seemed to end. The last 2 hours of my night are either spent recovering on the sofa or tackling a last minute project that can’t wait until the following day.

If you are dying to see what we did over the holidays and up to this point, Phil has captured quite a bit with his new camera. I also did my fair share of photo taking. Both can be seen here and here
