Well, it all makes sense now.

You know, 8 years ago, Phil and I had just gone to Vegas to get married. We had just recently bought our first house. Phil was working in at a motorcycle repair shop and had yet to embark on his career. I was employed by an evil empire in a position I had coveted for most of my life. We had just started out, really.

Since then we have been a bit busy. We got hired and fired, created a company, made one girl child, sold a house and bought another, lost health insurance, stole health insurance, cried about both things above. I made 60 friends around the globe that I have never met. I have questioned my sanity, been diagnosed with post-partum depression and gained a lot of weight. Phil moved that company 3 different times, hired employees, lost employees, and then hired some more. We started preschool and added a boy child to the family and then started Kindergarten. We made money and lost money, created a mound of debt and slowly began paying it all off. We bought and sold cars, too many to count thanks to Phil (mine alone is 3).

We complained about the current administration too often to count. We cried about war and fretted about religion. We swore at elections and did our part to support our candidates. We watched Virginia elect a bunch of Democrats but still elect Bush for a second term. Our hearts broke on more occasions than I care to recount.

With tomorrow on fast approach, I took a moment to look behind me at where I came from. No wonder this past 8 years feels like a lifetime. It HAS BEEN my life. We created a marriage. We made a family. We started a company and worked through the obstacle course of being a real grown up in those 8 years. It was easy to blame the government for so many problems we encountered.

In reality, there was so much growing up that we both have done. Tomorrow’s Inauguration is the start of the next section of our life. Not only is this an amazing beginning for the country, but I feel like things are turning for Phil and I as well. Like most of the country, I am not sure what is in store for us. But, I have hope for the next 8 years for all of us.

Oh and no more kids. I do know that much.

I hope one day you will read “Conversations with God.” It is about being spiritual, not religious. Millennium changed my life, this book changed my path.

Time is a creation of man.  Everything that has happened, is happening, and will happen is happening at this moment.  It is the reason we say “time flies.” Enjoy every moment of everyday, every moment of the lives of those beautiful babies, and every moment you get to love one another. It is called life and it is one hell of a ride.  Cherish it, relish in it.  And thank God you get to do it.

Loving you,
Dad
